2025 WTA Charleston Open Draw: Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys lead the way
The WTA 500 tournament in Charleston is taking place this week, with Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys leading the way.
Last year, Danielle Collins defeated Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-1 in the final to extend her winning streak to 13-consecutive matches – after winning the 2024 Miami Open.
First quarter
World No 4 Pegula is seeded first in Charleston, coming off a final showing in Miami. The American has reached the semi-finals at the last two editions of the event, most recently losing to Kasatkina.
In her first match, she will face either Heather Watson or a qualifier, and is then scheduled to clash against 16th seed Peyton Stearns.
In the other half of the quarter, Pegula opens against Viktoriya Tomova or Robin Montgomery before likely facing former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko.
If Pegula and Collins meet, the former will likely seize the opportunity to gain a sixth consecutive victory over her opponent.
Second quarter
The third seed Zheng Qinwen leads the second quarter, having not played on the clay surface since her gold medal match at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
However, her opening match won’t be a straightforward one as she is scheduled to face Marina Stakusic or – more likely – former world No 3 Maria Sakkari. The Greek leads their head-to-head 2-1, despite losing their most recent meeting.
Meanwhile, sixth seed Diana Shnaider is scheduled to face Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third-round – with the Russian having an impressive start to 2025 by winning the Linz Open title.
Qinwen would likely rather face Shnaider, having lost both meetings against Alexandrova – all of which were on clay.
Third quarter
Emma Navarro enters the event as the fourth seed and will face either Hailey Baptiste or Aussie Olivia Gadecki in the second round. If she gets past her opening match, the American is scheduled to face Ashlyn Krueger for a spot in the last eight.
Amanda Anisimova – who is having an impressive season after winning her first WTA 1000 event – leads the other half of the quarter. She may face former world No 9 Veronika Kudermetova in her opening match, before Yulia Putintseva likely awaits in her subsequent match.
Should Navarro and Anisimova meet, the higher-seeded American will take confidence from her 2-0 head-to-head record.

Fourth Quarter
2025 Australian Open champion Madison Keys is the event’s second seed, and will look for her second title at the Charleston Open – first lifting the trophy in 2019.
She will open against either Caroline Dolehide or Elisabetta Cocciaretto, before likely facing Anna Kalinskaya in the third-round.
Daria Kasatkina, who recently changed her allegiance from Russia to Australia, is Keys’ probable quarter-final opponent – should she get past Magdalena Frech. The American dominates their head-to-head 10-2, but lost their only clay meeting.
