Alexander Zverev has vowed to bounce back to form and disrupt the ‘party’ Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are enjoying at the top of men’s tennis.

Zverev is still the world No 3 despite his first round exit at Wimbledon and disappointing form in the opening half of 2025.

He is also struggling to unsettle Sinner and Alcaraz in the biggest matches, with the German failing to cash in following the retirements of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, as well as the declining form of an ageing Novak Djokovic.

Zverev may have been hoping his time to win Grand Slam titles would come when Federer, Nadal and Djokovic ended their winning run, but Sinner and Alcaraz has swiftly started their own era of dominance and have claimed all seven of the last major titles between them.

While Zverev’s form in recent months has not suggested he is ready to dethrone Sinner or Alcaraz any time soon, he has told Tennis365 that he believes he can get in the mix for the big prizes again soon.

Jannik Sinner’s Wimbledon prize money sees him overtake a legend in the all-time list

“Maybe it hasn’t been my best year, but I don’t think I’m as far away as some people may think,” Zverev told Tennis365 at an Adidas event in London.

“At the moment, Carlos is the kind of the star boy now. He just brings great energy to the court and along with Jannik, they are the players to beat. I just hope to spoil their party a little bit and I think I can do that.

“Carlos is a great guy. He is fun to be around and he always has a smile on his face. If he can avoid any controversies, he is going to be very, very loved by tennis fans.”

Zverev has been training at the Rafael Nadal Academy following his first round exit against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech and while he has his sights set on a Grand Slam challenge at the US Open, he is also back on Team Europe for the Laver Cup in San Fransico in mid-September.

After playing a role in a thrilling win for Europe in the most recent edition of this competition, he reflected on Alcaraz’s role in carrying the team over the line as he won the decisive final singles match.

“Laver Cup was great to be a part of and it is always a massive team effort, for sure,” said Zverev. “There are a lot of things that go into deciding which team comes out on top.

“The way Casper Ruud played in his doubles match on the final day of the last Laver Cup was amazing. It was probably the best doubles match I’ve ever watched from him.

“Then I came back from a set and a break down (against Frances Tiafoe) to get the win and I was very sick during that week. I pulled out of tournaments for a few weeks after that with a lung issue.

“Then Carlos came on and won the final match (against Taylor Fritz) and it was a great weekend. It definitely was a team effort.”

The Laver Cup is set to take place between September 19 and 21 in San Francisco, with Andre Agassi taking over from John McEnroe as Team World captain and Yannick Noah the Team Europe captain as he succeeds Bjorn Borg.
