Alexander Zverev: ‘I’m completely sick. I can’t really breathe. I had a fever as well’
Alexander Zverev has revealed that he was under weather during his French Open fourth-round defeat to Jannik Sinner, saying “I’m not in the best physical state”.
After beating Marco Cecchinato in straight sets in the third round on Saturday, Zverev was all over the show against 19-year-old Sinner a day later as the Italian won 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to reach his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final.

The German, though, revealed that after his defeat that all was not well.
“I was completely sick after the match with Cecchinato in the night,” he said. “I’m completely sick. I can’t really breathe, as you can hear by my voice. I had a fever as well.
“I’m not in the best physical state, I would say. I think that had a little bit of an effect on the match today.”
