Zverev has won nine ATP Tour singles titles, including three Masters 1000 trophies, but he is yet to replicate that form in Grand Slams as he his best showing at a major is his quarter-final appearance at this year’s French Open.

His record at Flushing Meadows also needs improving as he is yet to reach the third round, but he will be hoping Lendl will help him to turn his Grand Slam fortunes around.

“Sascha has a unique set of skills and a great work ethic so I am looking forward to helping him achieve his goals,” Lendl was quoted as saying by his manager Jerry Solomon after the announcement.

Former world No 1 and eight-time major winner Lendl was Andy Murray’s mentor when the Brit won the US Open in 2012, Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016, and gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games.
