Andy Murray has revealed that he will take only two non-playing members with him to the US Open, adding that a lot of players will only agree to travel to the United States if they are insured.

The 2020 US Open has been given the green light to go ahead form August 31 to September 13, but it will be played without spectators and will have a strict bio-secure bubble.

Former Flushing Meadows champion Murray has indicated that he will travel to the US and will compete in both the warm-up event, the Western & Southern Open, and the US Open.

However, several other players are yet to confirm their participation with quarantine regulations, the number of staff members they will be allowed to bring with and insurance, among other things, a concern.

Murray gave a bit more detail on insurance issue.

“Just my physio and my coach [will come]. That’s the plan. The most important thing for them is the insurance, the players are insured,” he said.

“We’ve been told there will be one to two members of staff will be insured, don’t know through USTA or ATP exactly, but told that is the case.

“Until that is certain it is difficult for people to agree to go over there, because if you catch something and have to spend a few weeks or potentially a month, in a hospital in America it is tens of thousands of pounds. The insurance is important.”
