Andy Murray: I still have a bit of pain in my hip, but…
Andy Murray admits he is “in a better place” now than he was a few months ago, but warns he still needs more matches under his belt to see how much progress he has made.
The three-time Grand Slam winner touched down in Australia on Thursday ahead of his participation in the Brisbane International.
The last time Murray arrived in Brisbane he was in heaps of pain and was eventually forced to pull out of the tournament. Not long after he underwent hip surgery.
He made his return to competitive tennis in June at Queen’s Club, but his recovery has been slow as he only played a handful of tournaments and called an early end to his 2018 campaign.
Even though he is good to go for the 2019 season, he refuses to get ahead of himself.
“I still have some pain in my hip, but I need to play matches and see how it feels when I am able to play three, four, five matches in a row and take it from there,” he told The Courier Mail.
“Last year when I came here it was tough, I was struggling quite a lot. It definitely feels a bit better than it did coming here last year. I’ve always loved playing here.
“I’m in a better place than I was a few months ago.”
Asked about his hopes for the next few weeks in Australia, Murray replied: “I would just like to get through the tournaments and feel likeI am able to compete and not be restricted by my hip.”
