Carlos Alcaraz has responded to Andy Murray’s message about the pair’s latest battle on the golf course during the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.

Alcaraz and Murray, who are both two-time Wimbledon champions, met for a round of golf on the eve of this year’s tournament.

After his third round win against Jan-Lennard Struff, Alcaraz was asked in his on-court interview by Annabel Croft what had happened in his contest with Murray.

“He said to you to ask this question, right?” Alcaraz responded. “He beat me that day. But then a few days later we played again and I beat him. So it’s 1-1 (laughs). We’re tied, we’re tied.”

Asked if he planned to play with Murray again during Wimbledon, Alcaraz said: “Let’s see. I just love playing golf on my days off.

“I know he has a busy schedule, so I will try to set it up, a golf round again. Nine holes and we have to see who wins. We are tied 1-1, so yeah, we have to play again.”

The day after Alcaraz’s match, Murray quoted a video of the Spaniard’s interview on Twitter and revealed that the decider had taken place.

The Scot hinted that he had come out on top as he wrote: “We played the deciding match this afternoon.

“Maybe ask him what happened after the next match (winking emoji).”

Following his four-set last 16 win against Andrey Rublev, Murray’s comment about the deciding golf match was put to Alcaraz.

“He said that? I didn’t remember to play any match yesterday, so… (laughs),” joked the world No 2.

“Yeah, I have to show up, I have to say he beat me. So just, yeah, yeah… (laughs) We were playing in his home so it could be really bad for him if I beat him in his home, so I let him win once.

“But yeah, I lost against him as a player, as a coach, in the golf course. So I’m not gonna play against him anymore (smiles).”

Highlights of the pair’s first golf match were shared on the Wimbledon YouTube channel, with Murray describing his win as “comfortable” and “6-2, 6-2 in tennis terms.”

Alcaraz has previously spoken about the enjoyment he gets from playing golf.

“Golf is a completely different sport from tennis, and that’s what I love about it,” said the 22-year-old Spaniard.

“It allows me to disconnect from the intensity of the tennis court and focus on something completely different.

“The mental aspect of golf is fascinating; it requires patience, precision, and a calm mind, which are skills that I find beneficial on the tennis court as well.”

Alcaraz is seeking a third successive Wimbledon title and sixth Grand Slam in total at the All England Club. The world No 2 is projected to meet either world No 1 Jannik Sinner or sixth seed Novak Djokovic in the final.
