Another setback for unfortunate Juan Martin del Potro as he undergoes a third knee operation

Juan Martin del Potro’s hopes of making a return to competitive tennis in 2020 are all but over after he underwent another operation on his injured knee.
The 2009 US Open champion fractured his right patella during the Shanghai Masters in October 2018 and spent the remainder of that season on the sidelines.
However, he made a return a few months into 2019, but he picked up another injury at the Fever-Tree Championships in June and was forced to undergo an operation. After failing to make a full recovery he underwent a second operation at the beginning of 2020.
After initially setting his sights on a comeback during the second half of 2020, Del Potro suffered a major setback as he has now had surgery for a third time.
“Juan Martin del Potro underwent surgery this morning on his right knee. The operation was conducted by Dr. Roland Biedert in Bern, Switzerland,” a statement said.
“Del Potro and Biedert had been in contact since January. In recent months, Delpo followed his doctor’s advice and even tested the knee of a court in Buenos Aires, but the pain persisted. After their first meeting, Biedert recommended a new surgery.”
