Ashleigh Barty will finally be able to see her loved ones again after returning to Australia following her decision to withdraw from the Indian Wells Masters.

The world No 1 has been on the road since March – winning four tournaments, including Wimbledon – during her adventure, but she has not been in action making a surprise third-round exit from the US Open.

Barty was expected to play at next week’s WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells, but organisers confirmed her withdrawal on Monday.

There was speculation that the Australian may well have played her final match of the 2021 season as her coach Craig Tyzzer had raised doubts about her participation in the WTA Finals in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Ashleigh Barty’s ‘grand adventure’ won’t make a stop at Indian Wells Masters with WTA Finals also in doubt

However, her manager Nikki Mathias confirmed that no decision has been made about the remainder of her calendar.

“Ash has withdrawn from Indian Wells to come home and see her family in Australia,” the statement read.

“She has been away from home since March and with the two week hotel quarantine requirement to come into Australia it has not been possible for her to return home before now.

“No further decisions have been made on events after Indian Wells yet.”
