Ashleigh Barty on reports she is eyeing a career as a pro golfer: ‘I had a good laugh about it’

Don’t expect to see Ashleigh Barty playing on the WPGA Tour of Australasia, Ladies European Tour or the LPGA Tour any time soon as she has laughed off rumours that she is looking to take up golf professionally.
Following her shock retirement from tennis in March, rumours have been swirling around that Barty will switch sports and either return to cricket or tackle golf.
The 25-year-old played in the Women’s Big Bash League in 2015 after taking a break from tennis while she has always been passionate about golf, even winning her local Brookwater Golf and Country Club ladies event just a few weeks after stepping away from tennis.
Australian World Cup winners Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry had admitted they would love it if Barty returns to cricket, but they conceded that “golf is in with a better chance (than cricket)”.
However, the three-time Grand Slam winner – who announced over the weekend that she is six-book “Little Ash” children’s series – is enjoying the rumours.
“I had a good laugh about it,” she joked to the Courier Mail.
“It’s alright. It’s all good. We try and play every week if we can. Normally it’s one in all in or one out all out. A very cruisy four-ball.”
Barty admits she is enjoys “scrambling around on a Saturday”.
