Jannik Sinner ended Carlos Alcaraz’s reign at Wimbledon in Sunday’s men’s singles final, and has been rewarded with a significant surge in the ATP Rankings.

The world No 1 had lost his last five matches to Alcaraz, including last month’s extraordinary French Open, where he spurned a two-set lead and three championship points.

However, Sinner appeared to lay any demons to rest inside Centre Court on Sunday, ending two-time champion Alcaraz’s reign with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 triumph.

It was a fourth Grand Slam title for the Italian and, having only reached the quarter-final in 2024, he has surged ahead in the ATP Rankings.

Sinner was guaranteed to stay as the world No 1 regardless of results at SW19, but his triumph earned him a staggering 2,000 points, 1,600 more than for reaching the last eight in 2024.

He had moved up 1,600 points to 12,030 ranking points, giving him a commanding lead in the ATP Rankings over No 2 Alcaraz.

After failing to defend his title, the Wimbledon runner-up has now dropped 700 points to 8,600, meaning he trails Sinner by 3,430 ranking points.

However, he still holds a significant cushion over world No 3 Alexander Zverev, who holds 6,310 points after his shock round-one exit at the All England Club.

Following his run to a first Wimbledon semi-final, Taylor Fritz has moved back up to his career-high of world No 4.

The American gains an extra 400 ranking points to move to 5,035 points overall, ahead of Jack Draper, who remains on 4,650 after falling in the second round for a second consecutive year.

Despite dropping 500 points after failing to match his 2024 runner-up finish, Wimbledon semi-finalist Novak Djokovic remains the world No 6.

Lorenzo Musetti and Holger Rune remain as the world No 7 and No 8 despite their respective round-one defeats, though there is good news for Ben Shelton.

After reaching his first Wimbledon quarter-final, the American moves up one place to world No 9, while Andrey Rublev surges four places to return to the top 10.

Inside the top 20, the most notable fall is that of Daniil Medvedev, who lost in round one after reaching the semi-final in both 2023 and 2024.

The former world No 1 drops five places to world No 14, his lowest ranking in over six years.

Also dropping down is Tommy Paul, who falls three places to world No 16 after his second-round exit fell short of his run to the quarter-final twelve months ago.
