Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu enjoyed a lighter moment away from the heat of the tennis court at the Queen’s Club in London when they were interviewed by tennis impersonator Josh Berry.

The duo who will play together at this year’s US Open mixed doubles tournament in August were quizzed by Berry as they took part in the HSBC Championships and the video has quickly become a bit hit on social media platforms.

Berry unleashed his array of tennis impersonations that included brilliant interpretations of Andy Murray and John McEnroe’s distinctive voices, while Alcaraz rocked back in his chair and laughed when he heard the impression of his fellow Spanish tennis icon Rafael Nadal.

The devious questions dreamed up by Berry and the LTA and ATP Media teams that put the video together included a poser to choose whether the players being interviewed would kiss, marry, or kill the legendary tennis trio of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

That was the one question Raducanu refused to answer and she was a little confused when she was asked: “Which one came first. The chicken or the egg of the chicken?”

The clip has created a big stir on social media and it was clear that the players who took part enjoyed the exchange with Berry.

Australian Open champion Madison Keys, the always engaging Frances Tiafoe and Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov were also joined by British star Katie Boulter and her fiancé Alex De Minaur as they were quizzed by the comedian, with this kind of content bringing tennis to a new audience.

The video starring Alcaraz and Raducanu was released after it was confirmed the duo will team up in what promises to be a thrilling mixed doubles event at this year’s US Open.

This unprecedented list of star entrants for mixed doubles—including nine of the world’s top 10 women and nine of the world’s top 10 men—will make this event the big talking point in the week before the US Open.

The format for the competition has been revealed and it is set to make for blockbuster television viewing.

  • A player field featuring 16 teams—eight teams earning direct entry based on their combined singles ranking and eight wild-card entries.
$1 million in prize money for the US Open mixed doubles champions (team).
  • Best-of-three-set matches with short sets to four games, no-ad scoring, tiebreakers at four-all and a 10-point match tiebreak in lieu of a third set.
  • The final will be a best-of-three set match to six games, featuring no-ad scoring, with tiebreakers at six-all and a 10-point match tiebreaker in lieu of a third set and all matches played in Arthur Ashe Stadium or Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The downside to the revamped US Open mixed doubles is the impact it will have on full-time doubles players who have been frozen out of the competition.
Polish player Jan Zielinski won the mixed doubles at the Australian Open and at Wimbledon in 2024 and he took to X to vent his annoyance after being frozen out of the US Open mixed event.

“I guess winning two grand slams in mixed doubles in one year is not enough to get an invitation to US Open ‘exhibition’ event,” wrote Zielinski. “Thanks for taking away the opportunity to compete and making it fair to everyone.”
