Carlos Alcaraz reveals features he would take from Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic’s game

A happy Carlos Alcaraz after winning Wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz is “already quite happy with his game”, and why wouldn’t he be? He is after all a two-time Grand Slam champion and one of the hottest prospects in tennis – and perhaps world sport – following his recent success.

However, he admits there are one or two characteristics from the Big Three of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic that he would like to add to his repertoire.

Many tennis pundits have described Alcaraz as a hybrid of tennis icons Nadal, Federer and Djokovic as he has traits of each player in his game.

And those features have already delivered a lot of success as last year he became the youngest world No 1 at the age of 19 on the back of winning the US Open and last week he won his second major when he beat 23-time major winner Djokovic in a classic Wimbledon final.

In an interview with French paper L’Équipe, Alcaraz was asked about which attributes of greats Nadal, Federer and Djokovic he would add to his game and replied: “To be honest, I’m already quite happy with the game I have…

“But if I had to take something from each, it would be Rafa’s mentality, the class that Federer has in his game and in his movements, and practically all of Djokovic’s shots, which are incredible. I would like to improve everything in my game a bit. Like Djokovic, Federer and Nadal did.”

On the back of ending Djokovic’s long unbeaten run at Wimbledon, the 20-year-old Alcaraz is the talk of the tennis world.

Naturally big things are expected of the rising star with some suggesting he could go on to rival Djokovic, Nadal and Federer in terms of greatness and the impact they had on the sport.

But Alcaraz is not getting ahead of himself as he feels he can learn another thing or two from the trio.

“At 20, they had also already won two or three Grand Slams and they continued to improve. That’s why they won the best tournaments in the world for so many years. They never stagnated and always wanted more,” he said.

Alcaraz, of course, also won the US Open in September last year, but he Nadal was the only one of the Big Three to have won more than one major before the age of 21 as he was on two French Open titles. Djokovic’s first major came at the age of 21 at the 2008 Australian Open and Federer’s maiden Slam came aged 22 at Wimbledon in 2003.
