Carlos Alcaraz labelled ‘the most complete player ever’ by legendary coach as Spaniard wins China Open

Legendary tennis coach Rick Macci has described Carlos Alcaraz as the most complete player he has ever seen.
Macci, who coached tennis icon Serena Williams, also declared Alcaraz is a combination of four all-time tennis greats with an Olympic sprinter.
Alcaraz defeated world No 1 Jannik Sinner 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3) in a thrilling final at the 2024 China Open to claim his fourth title of the year and 16th in total.
Prior to his triumph in Beijing, Alcaraz won the Indian Wells Masters, the French Open and Wimbledon this season.
The Spanish star now holds a 3-0 record against Sinner in 2024 and he has won six of the pair’s 10 encounters overall.
By winning the China Open, Alcaraz became the first player to win an ATP 500 tournament on all three surfaces: clay, grass and hard courts.

Alcaraz’s well-rounded game has been lauded by many tennis analysts and some of his rivals, with Novak Djokovic describing the Spaniard as the most complete player he has ever faced.
In a post on X, Macci hailed Alcaraz’s completeness and also highlighted the four-time Grand Slam winner’s speed and touch.
“He is the most complete player I have ever seen,” the American wrote. “Every box is checked from the technical to mental with imagination and inspiration.
“Throw in turbo speed and cotton soft hands and drop shot with better disguise than any Halloween costume in the room.”
The coach likened both Alcaraz and Sinner to Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal: “The Spanish magician (Alcaraz) and Italian flamethrower (Sinner) are cut from the same cloth.
“Both have the juice and play loose. Both are getting better and have that DNA Grand Slam inner quality like Joker, Rafa and Federer.”
In a separate tweet, Macci claimed Alcaraz is a blend of ‘Big Three’ and Andre Agassi.
“The Spanish magician is a rare blend of Fed (Federer) with feel,” Macci posted.
“Rafa [Nadal] with Grind. Joker (Djokovic) with Elasticity. [Andre] Agassi with compaction. Lets sprinkle in an Olympic sprinter with traction.”
Macci has coached five players who achieved the world No 1 ranking in their careers: Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Jennifer Capriati and Andy Roddick. He also worked with Mary Pierce, Anastasia Myskina and Sofia Kenin.
