Carlos Alcaraz gets a new look, steps up preparation for North American swing
Fresh from winning his maiden Wimbledon title, Carlos Alcaraz has decided it is also time for a fresh look in terms of his hair ahead of his return to action.
The world No 1 sported a generic haircut during his title run at Wimbledon, but he has opted to go with the side fade with the hair on top trimmed.
He went to his trusted hairdresser, Víctor, in Murcia for the cut and the new look appears to have gone down well with fans, if the Instagram likes are anything to go by.
Alcaraz is still on a high following his success at the All England Club in July where he became the third youngest player in the Open Era to win Wimbledon after beating defending champion Novak Djokovic in five titanic sets.
His win at SW19 earned him a second Grand Slam title and many are predicting he will dominate tennis over the next few years with the legendary Jimmy Connors even predicting he could win 15 Grand Slams.
“If Carlos Alcaraz plays until he is 33. So, he has got 13 years. Let’s just say he plays for 12 more years, that is 48 more slams,” he said. And if he doesn’t get too full of himself, I would say 15 (Grand Slam titles he could win).”
After that he featured in a couple of matches at the Hopman Cup before finally taking a well-deserved break following a busy period that saw also saw him win the Queen’s Club Championships.
The world No 1 will next be in action at the Canadian Open, which starts on August 7, where he will have 10 points to defend having lost in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000 event last year.
After that he will move onto the Cincinnati Open – where he reached the quarter-final last year – and he will once again battle it out for the world No 1 ranking with Novak Djokovic, who has opted to skip the Canadian Open. The Spaniard will then head to New York for his US Open title defence where he will have 2,000 points to defend.
The 20-year-old started his preparation for the North American hard-court swing at El Palmar in Murcia and Villena (Alicante), but he has already stepped up training as he has joined up with the rest of his team at the JC Ferrero Equelite Sport Academy.
Alcaraz and his team are set to leave for North America on Friday.
