Carlos Alcaraz has expressed his desire to win another Grand Slam title and a medal at the Olympic games in 2024 and divulged which he would choose if he could only have one.

The world No 2 explained he would opt for a gold medal at the Paris Games over another Major as achieving this would be “a dream come true.”

Alcaraz is already a two-time Grand Slam champion, having triumphed at the 2022 US Open and the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.

The 20-year-old downed Casper Ruud in four sets in the final at Flushing Meadows, before prevailing in an epic five-set title match against Novak Djokovic at the All England Club.

The Spaniard will be making his Olympic debut if he competes at next year’s Games in Paris, with the tennis event to be played on the clay courts of Roland Garros.

Alcaraz defeated Djokovic and Roberto Bautista Agut in exhibition matches in Saudi Arabia on December 27 and his home region of Murcia in Spain on December 28 respectively.

Speaking after his 7-6(1), 1-6, 10-7 victory over Bautista Agut in the inaugural edition of the Carlos Alcaraz Cup, Alcaraz spoke about his major goals for next year.

“I want to win another Grand Slam and a medal at the Olympic Games, and if I only have to say one of those achievements, I would take the gold in Paris 2024 because it would be a dream come true for me,” he declared.

The Murcian also communicated his joy at having the opportunity to play the exhibition in front of fans in his home region.

“It is a pride and an honour to be able to enjoy the people at home,” Alcaraz said.

“I am happy for this exhibition and the one I played the day before against Novak Djokovic and, although the calendar is very busy, for me it was a priority to be in Murcia and I was going to do whatever was necessary for it. It is an immense joy to enjoy my people.”

The world No 2 also outlined his intention to improve on his career-best 2023 campaign in 2024: “The goal for 2024 is to surpass 2023.”

Alcaraz had a superb season in 2023, winning six ATP titles. As well as his Wimbledon triumph, the Spaniard claimed Masters 1000 titles in Indian Wells and Madrid this season.

The 20-year-old is using exhibitions instead of any ATP tournaments to prepare for the 2024 Australian Open. It will be his first appearance at the Melbourne Grand Slam since 2022, having missed the 2023 edition through injury.
