Coco Gauff hopes to show off more Rolex timepieces in 2024

Coco Gauff has targeted Grand Slam success and the opportunity to get her sponsor Rolex into the limelight as a result.

Gauff is backed by Rolex who have supplied all the timepieces she has worn in trophy ceremonies.

She wore the simple yet stunning Rolex Oyster Perpetual when she lifted the US Open trophy. The elegant timepiece, which was likely the 36mm version, features a grape dial that matched her maroon outfit for the final. That grape dial comes with its own story, with that hue discontinued for over a decade.

Gauff realises that she is now a representative not only of herself but also her sponsors and women’s tennis as a whole.

“Winning the U.S. Open was a crazy feeling – one that I had never felt before and I don’t think I will ever feel again,” she said in a statement released by Rolex in December 2023 ahead of the Australian Open in January.

“I had dreamt of winning a Grand Slam, and the moment was even better than I could have ever imagined. For sure, my goal next year is to win another, and to represent Rolex and women’s tennis at the same time is a huge honor. I’m always looking forward to the next challenge and can’t wait to return to Melbourne as a Grand Slam champion.”

Rolex has had a close-knit relationship with tennis for almost 40 years, a sport with worldwide appeal whose history is being written with fresh challenges, tales, and champions but with the watchmakers’ presence as timekeepers nearly constant. The continual pursuit of perfection, the need for technical accuracy, unflinching effort, a reverence for tradition, and pushing beyond personal limitations are all strong fundamental characteristics shared by Rolex and tennis.

Rolex and tennis originally collaborated in 1978, when the brand joined with The Championships, Wimbledon, at a time when tennis was undergoing a significant revolution.

The brand rapidly established connections with all of the sport’s premier contests. Rolex currently collaborates with all four Grand Slam tournaments, all major men’s and women’s events, and the top international team competitions.

Gauff will start her season by defending the ASB Classic in Auckland at the head of a surprisingly stacked field for the event in New Zealand in the first week on January.

She gave up a chance to be involved with the United States’ efforts to defend their United Cup title but had agreed to enter the Auckland tournament earlier this year.
