Daniil Medvedev makes Carlos Alcaraz Wimbledon plea for Halle winner Bublik

Having lost to him in the Halle Open final, Daniil Medvedev has one request for Alexander Bublik – be on Carlos Alcaraz’s side of the draw.
Bublik, who won his fifth ATP Tour singles title after deating Medvedev 6-3, 7-6, built a repatuon of a giant killer having knocked out Jannik Sinner on the way to the German final.
That performance came after Bublik the world No. 45, defeated ninth seed Alex de Minaur and fifith seed Jack Draper at the French Open.
And having taken his latest scalp, the No. 11 ranked Medvedev, the Russian had one request:
“First of all Sasha, big congrats to you and your team,” Medvedev said after collecting his runner’s up trophy. “I hope you’re in Carlos’ draw at Wimbledon..
“Please Carlos or Jannik draw at Wimbledon.”
Bublik responded with his own compliments to Medvedev with the Russian winning al six of their games ahead of the final.
“Daniil, I’ve been cursed to play you forever and never won a set in my life, but today I’m happy to get through, and I wish you — you’re a great champion — I wish you a lot of success,” Bublik told his opponent afterward. “I mean, to win, to beat you here, it’s a privilege for me.”
As for his own perofmance, Medvedev was left without “the best feeling” following his first final since March 2024.
“A better week, maybe, than we expected but not the best feeling in the end,” Medvedev said. “We try to do better next time.”
Bublik, meanwhile, is celebrating his second win in Halle, having been victoruous in 2023.

“I had such tough months since last Wimbledon until probably this summer. I was close to calling it quit [sic] after Wimbledon because I was not enjoying it anymore.
“I promised my coach that I’d stay there, that I will keep practising, after Wimbledon I will make a decision if I need to take a couple of months off before trying to come back.
“Well, [now] this is happening. Quarters French, winner here – I have no words.”
