‘Devastated!’ – Roger Federer, Serena Williams, and rest of the tennis world react to Wimbledon cancellation

The tennis world is reeling from the news that, for the first year since the end of the second world war, there will be now Wimbledon after the coronavirus got the best of the schedulers. We take a look at how the sport’s biggest stars are reacting.
Roger Federer was one of the first to get his reaction out there, and given his affinity with SW19 it is unsurprising he was left largely lost for words.

Defending champion Simona Halep, meanwhile, was focusing on the positives…

Unlike Federer and Williams, Coco Gauff has plenty of other chances to play at Wimbledon to look forward to, but even she declared herself brokenhearted.
i’m gonna miss playing in @Wimbledon this year. Stay safe everyone, love you guys❤️

Kevin Anderson was keeping it philosophical.
I’ve always had so many great memories at @Wimbledon. The grass season will definitely be missed but the most important thing right now for us to focus on is that we’re all staying healthy and safe at home. pic.twitter.com/Btlu9rMfDc

Angelique Kerber had too much to say about it for one mere tweet to contain…

Carla Suarez Navarro, who is retiring this year, was slowly coming to terms she will never be back at Wimbledon as a player.
Will miss you, @Wimbledon. Your tradition, your history, your respect for our sport.
Always a special place… pic.twitter.com/olLFVh1ADH

Felix Auger-Aliassime kept it concise.
See you in 2021, Wimbledon.

Kirsten Flipkens was hurting, though.
I guess this image says it all.. No Wimbledon ❌ I am the first to say that health comes first. But I would lie if I say it doesn’t hurt inside me to see my favorite tournament getting cancelled.. #nowimbledon2020 pic.twitter.com/Cp4Na78CXD
