Emma Raducanu can’t resist a comment as Michael Owen tweet goes viral

Former footballer Michael Owen had the best of intentions as he posted a tweet congratulating Emma Raducanu for her win in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
Yet the generous sentiments of the ex-Liverpool and England striker backfired as a stream of replies mocked the tweet, with Twitter users suggesting Owen was trying to raise his profile on the back of the success of the tennis superstar.
Cheeky Twitter users responded to Owen’s tweet with a wild array of messages suggesting they had also claimed big prizes over the course of their careers, with all very much tongue in cheek as they delighted in poking fun at 2001 Ballon d’Or winner Owen.

Owen might not have seen the funny side of this hilarious Twitter exchange, but Raduancu appeared to enjoy it as she gave her verdict in a tweet:
Never normally see things online but was just sent the funniest thread… you are too funny out there🤣🙏
