Emma Raducanu warned ‘everyone will go nuts’ if she makes the wrong decision

Emma Raducanu is searching for another coach after the exit of Nick Cavaday and former British No 1 Laura Robson believes she needs to take her time over what will be a crucial appointment in what could be a pivotal year in her career.
Raducanu has had a host of high-profile coaching appointments since she won the 2021 US Open title, with her form and fitness halting her ambitions to live up to the huge expectations around her after that New York success.
Now the 22-year-old is facing another huge decision as she looks to hire another coach, with Robson suggesting she should take time to find the right candidate as she hinted experienced fitness coach Yutaka Nakamura could help her to find the right candidate.
“I don’t think she’s going to rush into it,” said Sky Sports Tennis analyst Robson. “It’s got to be the right person because if she goes for someone and ends up changing it quickly everyone will go nuts again.
“She has Yutaka with her and he has huge experience on the tour, so he might be able to help.”

Raducanu appears to be in agreement with Robson, after confirming she intends to take her time to select a coach to take her back towards the top 20 of the WTA Rankings.
“It’s a decision that I want to take my time with,” said Raducanu of her next coaching move.
“I think that’s why I haven’t necessarily jumped into something straight away, because I want to make sure it’s a right fit.
“And I think this period where I don’t necessarily have someone is going to tell me a lot.
“It’s going to teach me a lot, what I want, what I don’t want to look for in the next person.
“So I think I’m using this time period to just figure out what I really value. I’m not too sure yet right now. I haven’t come to any plans or decisions.
“So yeah, I’m just taking it, using the next couple weeks to see how I feel, and then make a decision.”
Robson has also backed Raducanu’s move to continue to play tournaments after her thumping defeat against Iga Swiatek at the Australian Open.
She was beaten in a tight first-round match in Singapore last week and has opted to play again in Abu Dhabi this week after getting a wildcard into the main draw.
“I loved the fact she went to Singapore in the first place to get some matches in,” added Robson. “That didn’t go as well as she would have hoped, but to play the week after is exactly what she has been trying to do for the last year.
“By the time Indian Wells and Miami come around, she is going to be ready for that.
“Even in Australia, she was playing some good tennis but wasn’t match sharp in the key moments.
“She dug out a few of those matches because she is a great competitor, but you could tell she wasn’t playing her best tennis.”
Raducanu has a huge chance to break back into the top 50 of the WTA Rankings if she can win a few matches over the next month and after not playing last year’s French Open, the clay court season could provide Raducanu with further chances to boost her ranking.
