Emma Raducanu hailed as an ‘inspiration’ as Ana Bogdan reveals they ‘are both fans of Daniel Ricciardo’

Emma Raducanu enjoys a light-hearted moment

Emma Raducanu’s US Open fairytale proved that “everything is possible if you work and if you believe”, according to her next opponent Ana Bogdan.

Although they are at different stages of their career with Raducanu at the start and Bogdan already a WTA Tour veteran, the Romanian is drawing inspiration from the British teenager, who became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam when she won the US Open in September.

The duo will play meet in the second round of the Transylvania Open on Thursday and the 28-year-old Bogdan has nothing but praise for Raducanu.

“Of, course, even to me [what she did was inspirational],” the world No 106 said. “I said to myself that everything is possible, everything is achievable if you work hard and if you believe, if you are positive, you can do it.

“It’s very important to have the right attitude, this is what I admired when I watched her: the focus, her shots, and the way she behaved. For me she was an inspiration, I think for many girls out there too. She is a great athlete and a great champion, I’m looking forward to the match.”

She added: “I think she won thanks to her attitude, the way she behaved the whole tournament. That smile and that innocence on her face. I think that was the key. She always kept a positive attitude no matter the score, she was there, but positively. That helped her a lot.”

The clash in Cluj will be their first-ever professional meeting, but they both took part in some pre-tournament activities and had the chance to “catch up” on Formula 1.

“We were talking about Formula 1, we are both fans of F1 and Daniel Ricciardo!” Bogdan revealed.
