Emma Raducanu form draws Andy Murray comparison as ex-WTA star makes bold assertion

Former British No 1 Annabel Croft has described Emma Raducanu’s 2025 Miami Open performances as phenomenal as she compared the 22-year-old to tennis great Andy Murray.
Raducanu bounced back from a difficult start to the 2025 season by making an impressive run to the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 event in Miami.
The Brit overcame Sayaka Ishii, Emma Navarro, McCartney Kessler and Amanda Anisimova for the loss of just a single set before falling in three sets to world No 4 Jessica Pegula in the last eight.
It was the first time Raducanu won four consecutive WTA Tour matches since her remarkable US Open title win in 2021 — when she won seven matches without losing a set after progressing through three qualifying rounds.
The 215 points Raducanu earned for reaching the quarter-finals in Miami has lifted her from 60th to 48th in the Live WTA Rankings.
The former world No 10 arrived in Miami with a 3-6 season record and having lost six of her previous seven matches.

Raducanu will now enter the clay-court season with positive momentum as she looks to continue to climb the rankings.
In a column for The Times, Croft made the bold claim that Raducanu performed at a higher level in Miami than she did when she won the US Open.
“Watching Raducanu breeze through to the last eight in Florida, I could not believe the difference in a player who looked as if she had little to no confidence just a few weeks ago,” the former world No 24 wrote.
“Her first round win against Sayaka Ishii, the world No 188 who frankly struggled to hit the ball in the court, ignited a level of play that I believe was higher than her run to Grand Slam glory at Flushing Meadows.
“When Raducanu plays like that it is phenomenal to watch as she barely misses a ball. There were so few unforced errors across her matches in Miami that it reminded me of Andy Murray when he went into that mode in which the opponent had to work so hard to win a point.
“Mentally it imposes so much pressure on the opponents and you could see this getting into their heads to the point where they could not compete.”
