Emma Raducanu has set her sights on climbing back to the top of the women’s game in 2025, with some clear targets defined for this year.

Raducanu’s run to the third round of the Australian Open was a positive start to her year and with her ranking boosted from this time last year, the 22-year-old should have a chance to play in plenty of tournaments in the next few months.

“I want to play more than I did this year,” said Raducanu. “I think now, with my set-up, I’m in a place where I can continue work on the road. So I don’t necessarily need to come back to continue good physical work.

“I can do it pretty much every day, like microdoses. And I think that’s actually going to be a great addition for me next year, which I’m excited about.

“Also with my tennis, I’m in a pretty good spot. I feel like I just want to see how much I can do and fulfil my potential. I’m curious about what my level can get to. I really want to play more. And I think a big part of that is just staying healthy.”

Here is the Raducanu story so far, with so much more to come for one of the most talked about players in tennis.

WHEN IS RADUCANU’S NEXT TOURNAMENT?

Raducanu had a poor run after the Australian Open as she lost her openers at the Singapore Tennis Open, Abu Dhabi Open and Qatar Open before ending her losing run with victory over Maria Sakkari at the Dubai Tennis Championships.

Up next is the Sunshine Double as she will be in action at both the Indian Wells Open and Miami Open.

WHAT ABOUT RADUCANU’S RANKING

The Brit broke into the top 10 of the WTA Ranking in the months after her 2021 US Open win, with a bulk of the points that propelled her into that position coming from her famous win New York.

Raducanu collected 2,000 ranking points from that Grand Slam triumph, but she dropped outside the top 200 of the world rankings in 2023 after injury kept her off-court in the second half of that year,

Despite playing a limited tournament schedule in 2024, Raducanu still managed to break back into the top 100 and her current ranking is No 55.

HOW MUCH PRIZE MONEY HAS RADUCANU WON?

Raducanu has won $4,752,127 in career prize money so far, with a large chunk of that total collected at the 2021 US Open, where she won $2.5m.

She has collected far more from her off-court earnings, with Dior, Porsche, Tiffany, British Airways, Vodafone and Evian among the A-list brands that signed up Raducanu after her US Open triumph.

It is not known how many of those companies are still using Raducanu as a brand ambassador, but experts have suggested she has earned in excess of $20m from her sponsorship deals.

RADUCANU’S BEST WINS

For as long as she plays professional tennis, Raducanu will struggle to eclipse her 2021 US Open win as it announced her arrival as a sporting superstar.

She didn’t need to beat any of the game’s top players to win in New York as the draw opened up for her, but she has beaten some top players since then and her win against USA’s world No 5 on grass at Eastbourne in June 2024 her first against a top ten opponent.

She went on to beat world No 9 Maria Sakkari to record a second top-10 win at Wimbledon a couple of weeks later.

WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT EMMA

Former British No 1 Tim Henman: “If she can stay healthy and competes a lot, the results will come because she’s that good. If she wasn’t good enough, you’d say she has to pick her tournaments and play some weaker events. With Emma, if she stays healthy, I’m convinced the results will follow.”

Tennis legend John McEnroe: “Sometimes I see her and it looks like she is heading back towards the top of the game and then other times I’m a bit befuddled about what’s going on. There were a couple of matches at Wimbledon and she looked really good and then in the last one, she looked really shaky. It’s hard to know what to say about her. I don’t really know.”

Former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash: “It’s been interesting to watch her play. She has certainly got the talent to compete at the top level. You just have to hope Raducanu stays fit and can get matches under her belt because she certainly has the talent to do very well.”

Former world No 7 Barbara Schett: “Let’s see her play 25 tournaments in a year and see where she can be. The problem when you have these constant setbacks is you never get a chance to build up momentum and you always doubt yourself. You worry about getting injured and you don’t want to have those thoughts in your head when you are on court. I wish her all the best to break into the top 10 or the top 20 this year, but we just don’t know whether the motivation is there for her.”
