Emma Raducanu set to move up one spot in WTA Rankings and finish stellar season inside top 20

Emma Raducanu celebrates victory

She started the year at No 345 in the WTA Rankings, but Emma Raducanu will cap off a glorious debut campaign on the WTA Tour inside the world top 20.

The 18-year-old finished her maiden season on a disappointing note as she lost in the second round of the Upper Austria Linz against Wang Xinyu on Tuesday.

Despite the early exit, Raducanu is projected to move up from No 20 in the rankings to No 19 as Elise Mertens is set to drop five places from No 16.

Raducanu only broke into the top 20 this week as she climbed one spot on the back of Belinda Bencic moving down six places, becoming only the fifth British woman to crack the milestone after Virginia Wade, Sue Barker, Jo Durie and Johanna Konta.

And she is set to move up another place to No 19 in next week’s list on the back of Mertens’ slump.

It means there was a net gain of 326 places for Raducanu since the start of January with the bulk of her points coming from her US Open victory.

The 2000 points from her maiden Grand Slam victory at Flushing Meadows saw leap into the top 30 while she also picked up two wins at the WTA 250 event in Romania.

Raducanu is set to finish the year with 2627 points and the bulk of those points were achieved during the second half of the season, which means the teenager will only start losing points from June next year.
