Felix Ager-Aliassime shows his fighting spirit to down Damir Dzumhur in Montpellier
Fifth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime fought back to claim his place in the second round at the Open Sud de France with a 6-7 (5) 6-2 6-2 win over Damir Dzumhur.
The 19-year-old Canadian hit 11 aces and broke six times to see off the Bosnian in Montpellier and book a clash with Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who beat Ukrainian qualifier Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-2 7-5.
Sixth seed Pablo Carreno Busta was beaten 3-6 6-4 6-3 by Norbert Gombos of Slovakia but seventh seed Filip Krajinovic of Serbia saw off French qualifier Enzo Couacaud 6-4 6-4.
One qualifier did go through as Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland beat Dennis Novak of Austria 7-6 (3) 4-6 6-2.
India’s top-ranked men’s singles player Prajnesh Gunneswaran, the world number 122, beat Germany’s Yannick Maden 7-6 (4) 7-6 (5) in the Tata Open Maharashtra in Pune.
Italian Roberto Marcora eased through his encounter with fellow qualifier Lukas Rosol 6-3 6-2 while there were also victories for fifth and sixth seeds Yuichi Sugita and James Duckworth.
Japan’s Sugita overpowered Italian Thomas Fabbiano 6-3 6-0 and Australian Duckworth was a 7-6 (5) 6-4 winner over Germany’s Peter Gojowczyk.
