Fireworks and a street party as Belgrade honours its favourite son Novak Djokovic after No 1 record

Belgrade paid tribute to its favourite son Novak Djokovic on Monday as the Serbian capital held a street party to honour his latest achievement.
Djokovic on Monday started his 311th week at No 1 in the ATP Rankings to set a new record for most weeks at the top, surpassing Roger Federer’s long-standing mark of 310.
“Big day today,” Djokovic tweeted early on Monday.

And later in the day Djokovic was joined by his family as Belgrade honoured the 33-year-old’s No 1 record feat.
A street party was held and some buildings were lit with his portrait, including a light show displaying the best moments of his career.
A fireworks display also took place in front of the Djokovic family’s restaurant in Belgrade.
The fans were naturally delighted when their hero emerged, shouting “Nolo, Nolo” and waving Serbian flags.
“Today is a special day for myself, my family as well as Serbia,” Djokovic told the crowd. “Thank you for the success which is not only mine but of the whole nation.”
