Grand Slam winner Caroline Wozniacki: Sorry I had to win

Caroline Wozniacki at long last realised her Grand Slam dream on Saturday as she won her first major when she defeated Simona Halep in the Australian Open final.
After twice losing in the US Open final, it was third time lucky for the Dane as she beat Halep 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 6-4 in a classic final on Rod Laver Arena.
Wozniacki also reclaimed the top spot in the women’s rankings from Halep with the victory, but getting her hands on the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup.
“I’m just taking a second here to hug Daphne. To be here today is a dream come true. I’ve dreamt of this moment for so many years and my voice is shaking, it’s a very emotional moment,” the 27-year-old said.
“I want to thank everyone who makes this tournament happen, it’s been an incredible two weeks. Thank you. I also want to congratulate Simona. I know today is a tough day.
“I’m sorry that I had to win, but I’m sure we’ll have many matches in the future. It was an incredible match, an incredible fight, and again I’m sorry. I also want to thank my fiancee (NBA ace David Lee). I was a nervous wreck this morning but you managed to calm me down.”
Good times never seemed so good!
