Grigor Dimitrov’s incredible 58 consecutive grand slams comes to an end with US Open absence

Grigor Dimitrov will sit out a grand slam for the first time since 2010.

A run of 58 consecutive grand slam appearances for Grigor Dimitrov will shortly come to an end after his manager confirmed he will miss the upcoming US Open.

Since the 2011 Australian Open, the name Dimitrov has featured on every men’s singles entry list but the Bulgarian will be missing from the American slam next month due to an injury he picked up at Wimbledon.

The 34-year-old was two sets up against eventual winner Jannik Sinner before having to retire due to a partial tear of his right pectoralis major muscle.

But the No.20 has been unable to recover in time for the upcoming slam and his manager Georgi Stoimenov told TennisKafe that Dimitrov will be sitting out of the tournament.

The hope is that he will be fit for the tournaments in China in late September but that could sitll change.
