Rising star reveals Novak Djokovic ‘helps financially and gives me whatever I need’
Rising ATP star Hamad Medjedovic has revealed his Serbian compatriot Novak Djokovic helps him financially and gives him whatever he needs for his career.
The 20-year-old explained that the world No 1 is assisting him “in all types of ways” and expressed his appreciation for the tennis legend being there for him.
Medjedovic had positive results in his past two main draw tournament appearances, firstly winning the title at the Mallorca Challenger in September. He then reached the semi-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Astana earlier in October, losing to Sebastian Korda in a final set tiebreak.
The world No 102 (a career-high ranking) lost in the first round of qualifying for Antwerp and Basel in his last two events. Medjedovic, who is coached by countryman and former world No 12 Viktor Troicki, holds a 7-6 record at ATP Tour main draw level this year.
The Serbian is in a strong position to qualify for the Next Gen Finals as he currently sits ninth in the Race to Jeddah. Carlos Alcaraz – who is in top spot – is instead set to feature at the ATP Finals, while second-placed Holger Rune and third-placed Ben Shelton are also in contention to qualify for Turin.
Medjedovic recently detailed the help he has received from 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic in his career.
“Novak Djokovic’s been helping me out financially. Giving me whatever I need for my career. He covered it all. He just helped me out when I needed it and [is] still helping me out in all types of ways. I’m glad he’s there for me,” said the 20-year-old in quotes reported on Twitter/X.

Medjedovic’s father, Eldin, discussed the role Djokovic has played in his son’s career in an interview with Sportal last year.
“We did not spend a dime, and believe me, that is not a small amount in the world of tennis, on the contrary,” he said.
“Imagine, the best player in the world is calling my kid to work together in the preseason, it is like [Lionel] Messi or [Cristiano] Ronaldo telling you: ‘Let’s play some football’, or: ‘Let me know if you need anything.’
“These kinds of things are rare in today’s world, but thank God there are still people who don’t care only about money, but about the human side of things.”
