‘I feel comfortable on clay, I always have,’ says Simona Halep as she targets Roland Garros repeat

Simona Halep says she feels ‘comfortable’ on clay and has backed herself to shine at Roland Garros later this month.
The Romanian has been in the unusual position of being able to enjoy an extended amount of time practising on clay due to her decision to skip the US Open.
She won on the red dirt in Prague before opting not to travel to New York, and she seemingly couldn’t be happier.
“I feel comfortable on clay, I have always been,” Halep told reporters in Rome.
“I have been training and playing on clay for months, which is strange, as we are not used to that. I hope I can play at my best in Rome and Paris.
“I will give my best in every match here in Rome and see what will happen.
“I don’t know all the details about Roland Garros yet, but I’m sure the organisers will give their best to keep both players and fans safe.”
Halep already has one Roland Garros title after winning her maiden Grand Slam crown there in 2018.
