Carlos Alcaraz makes strong prediction about Lorenzo Musetti’s future
Carlos Alcaraz has predicted that Lorenzo Musetti “has the weapons” to enter the world’s top 10.
The pair contested the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters final, with Alcaraz coming out on top with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Despite not lifting the title, the Italian produced a highly-impressive week by beating the likes of Matteo Berrettini, Alex de Minaur, and Stefanos Tsitsipas – who was the defending champion – along the way.
“We are going to see Lorenzo Musetti in the top 10,” predicted former world No 1 Alcaraz, after their clash.
“I think I’m sure about it, and I will see Musetti fighting for great things in our sport.
“I’m not surprised that Lorenzo is pretty close to be [ATP] top 10. He has the potential to be there. I mean, he beat top-10 players many times. He faced the best players in the world.
“I mean, he beat them and he can play really tough matches match after match after match.
“So that’s the top 10, do it during the whole year. So I think he has the weapons. He has the level. He’s learning, as I saw he mentioned before, that he’s learning how to suffer in the matches.”
After his adventures in Monaco, Musetti is confirmed to rise to the world No 11 position, up five spots from the week prior. His previous career high of world No 15 was first achieved in June 2023.
The Italian sits just 15 points behind world No 10 Casper Ruud in the live rankings, but it should be noted that the Norwegian will participate at the ATP 500 event in Barcelona – an event which Musetti has withdrawn from.
Overall, he has collected 11 top 10 victories during his career – with seven occurring on clay.

Alcaraz’s prediction is one that Musetti has made clear that he hopes to fulfil.
“After this, of course, we are already focused on other goals, on trying to be ambitious and motivate ourselves even more, because we have not yet reached the top-10,” commented the Italian.
“Right now, that’s probably the main goal of the season: we’re close enough to keep fighting and keep dreaming.”
As stated earlier, Musetti has withdrawn from Barcelona due to discomfort which heavily hindered him towards the end of the final against Alcaraz.
“We don’t know the specific nature of the (leg) injury yet, but it’s clear that we’re going to do some tests in the coming days,” admitted Musetti.
“As you have seen, I couldn’t finish the match as I wanted, but in a final, I didn’t want to retire. It was the best way to finish, even if I wasn’t able to play much more. It is what it is.
“The toughness of the whole week, of the long matches I played, was what took its toll on me today.
“In this final, I was very clear about what I had to do. Especially after the first set, which I played probably my best tennis, and of course I was feeling the ball really well today. I had a clear mind what I had to do.
“But physically I was struggling, the physical problems and the fatigue and all the, let’s say, stress accumulated in the past days, past matches, they were there. So unfortunately I couldn’t finish the match. I mean, I couldn’t, let’s say, fight till the end.”
