John Isner sparks Twitter storm for expressing controversial views on mask-wearing

John Isner has caused a stir on social media after suggesting the rule requiring coaching staff in the NFL to wear a facemask was little more than ‘cosmetic theater’.
His post on Twitter has sparked a debate over whether sportsmen should set an example by wearing face coverings in a bid to stem the spread of Covid-19, with Isner clearly not convinced as he posted this message.
Requiring nfl coaches to wear masks on the sidelines is pure cosmetic theater. Makes zero sense.

The tweet prompted a hostile response, with some suggesting the big-serving American should not be allowed to compete in tournaments outside of America as a result.
He responded to one of his accusers who suggested everyone should wear a mask with this message:
Brainwashed

Isner clearly has strong views on mask-wearing in these troubled times for the world and he is not afraid to get himself involved in a toxic debate on social media as a result.
It remains to be seen how the tennis authorities will react to his comments.
