‘It was my toughest match’ – Andy Murray reacts to winning first ATP singes match since surgery

Andy Murray is a singles winner on the ATP Tour again after defeating Tennys Sandgren at the Zhuhai Championships on Tuesday.
The former word number one had lost all of his previous singles matches at ATP level since returning from hip surgery, including one to Sandgren.
However, he appears to be making progress in his bid to regain his fitness, defeating the American 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-1.
“In some ways it was one of the toughest wins that I’ve had,” Murray admitted afterwards.
“It’s good to see I’m still progressing and making improvements.

“Tonight was a really good match to get through but I’ll see how I feel tomorrow.
“It was important for me to get my first win on Tour since the operation. Now it’s pretty cool to play and not have pain there.”
Murray will face Australian Alex de Minaur next, but the match isn’t scheduled until Thursday so will get a day’s rest.
The Scot has a busy schedule planned, with tournaments in Beijing, Shanghai, and Antwerp to follow Zhuhai as he attempts to get himself ready for the Australian Open in January.
