‘It’s only the second round’ – Novak Djokovic shows complete focus following Australian Open rout

Novak Djokovic was a picture of focus as he effortlessly overcame Tatsuma Ito in the second round of the Australian Open on Wednesday.

The defending champion surprisingly dropped a set in his opening match, but was in more typically ruthless mood against the Japanese, beating him 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.

“It’s only second round. I do have to keep going,” Djokovic told reporters afterwards.

“I feel comfortable and confident playing in Australia. History of my results here have been very positive.”

“My serve was working extremely well in first round and second round.

“That’s something I worked on in the off-season. That’s one of the priorities I guess of the training sessions, trying to get that I think advantage of winning a lot of easy points on the first serve.

“It has been paying off so far I think in ATP Cup and here, two matches.”

Djokovic will now face Ito’s compatriot Yoshihito Nishioka. in round three.

Meanwhile, sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas was given a free passage through to the third round after opponent Philipp Kohlschreiber withdrew.
