Jannik Sinner emerged as the biggest winner at the Six Kings Slam after his win against Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the exhibition event in Saudi Arabia earned him the biggest prize money cheque in tennis history.

The Italian recovered from losing the opening set of the final to score a first win of the season over Alcaraz, beating the Spaniard 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-3.

This win will not count on their official head-to-head record as it was only an exhibition event, but it was the biggest payday of Sinner’s career.

The $6million prize cheque he collected after being crowned as the Six Kings Slam winner was more than he won as he lifted the Australian Open title last January and also the US Open crown in September.

It capped a stunning year for the world No 1, who has managed to keep his focus on the court despite the ongoing crisis over his two failed drug tests last March.

Sinner faces a battle to avoid a ban from tennis in 2025 after the World Anti-Doping Agency appealed against the decsion not to issue the world No 1 with a ban.

Yet that debate is for another day, as this celebration of tennis in Riyhad was all about Sinner finding a way to beat Alcaraz and he was full of praise for his opponent after the match.

“We try to push ourselves to the limit,” said Sinner of his rivalry with Alcaraz.

“I wake up in the morning trying to understand the ways to beat him. These kind of rivalries and players push us to our 100% limit. I’m happy about this today.

“The reason we came here was to show all of you what tennis is about. It can be long sometimes, like today. But we just try our best. Hopefully you enjoyed the show.

“We understand each other. We travel a lot. I would say we are good friends. Not the best out of the best. But we like to share every time when we go on court. We try to enjoy.

“Every match has been very very good. Hopefully this rivalry will last as long as possible. But there are so many other players who can jump in. Let’s see what’s coming in the future.”

Alcaraz was equally gushing about his rivalry with Sinner, as he admitted his rival is driving him to the next level.

“I will practice and try as hard as I can. I’m sure Jannik is gonna be there,” said Alcaraz.

“I’ll try to do my best every day during the years. Hopefully it makes this rivalry better and better over the years. I want to say I’m grateful to have him around on tour.

“Thanks to him I push myself to the limit. I give my 100 per-cent every day to be a better player. It’s a pleasure every time I share the court with him. Sometimes it’s tough to find the joy. But it’s great every time I face him.”

Sinner had already won over $12million from his stunning run of form in 2024, with the $6million he claimed for his three-match wins in the Six Kings Slam not added to his officials to prize money chart as this was an exhibition event.

He will now look to round-off his perfect year with wins at the Paris Masters and ATP Finals in Turin.
