Tennis icon John McEnroe has proclaimed that Jannik Sinner will beat Carlos Alcaraz “every time” unless the Spaniard “brings his A game” ahead of the 2025 Wimbledon final.

Sinner and Alcaraz will face off for the 13th time and the second time in a Grand Slam championship match.

Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 8-4 having prevailed in a remarkable five-set final at the French Open last month — his fifth win in a row against the Italian.

The matchup means it will be a seventh straight Grand Slam tournament won by either Sinner or Alcaraz, with the duo having each secured three of the last six.

World No 1 Sinner is seeking a maiden Wimbledon crown and first major outside of hard courts, while second seed Alcaraz is vying for a third successive title at the All England Club and fifth Slam overall.

Speaking on the BBC, McEnroe lauded Sinner’s game after his straight-set semi-final victory against seven-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic.

“Never have I seen Sinner move and cover the court so effectively,” said the American, who won three Wimbledon singles titles.

Novak Djokovic gives one player ‘slight edge’ in Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz Wimbledon final

Carlos Alcaraz told he will never ‘dethrone’ one player at Wimbledon by former world No 1

“Not just the back court, but the forecourt. To be able to come up and produce little lobs. It’s not something you typically see from Sinner. He’s got to be feeling really good.

“We were watching a better version of Novak Djokovic playing himself. Doing the exact same things that made Novak get to that pantheon of the sport.

“When Sinner brings his A game, there’s no one that can beat him – other than Alcaraz.

“On the other hand, if Alcaraz doesn’t bring his A game, Sinner will win every time. So it’s going to be extremely interesting.”

After beating Taylor Fritz to progress to the final, Alcaraz admitted he was surprised by the one-sided nature of Sinner’s win over Djokovic.

“Yeah, that match surprised me a little bit obviously. Winning Novak is a really difficult challenge, really difficult things to do. So beating him quite easily, so it’s even harder,” the 22-year-old said in his press conference.

“But the level that Jannik’s playing, it’s really high, as always. I think he doesn’t get down his level in the matches. It’s unbelievable what he can do on a tennis court.”
