Alex de Minaur is one of the form players heading into the Australian Open and his love story with British No 1 Katie Boulter could be set to be one of the tennis stories of 2024.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa’s romance was a headline-grabbing story away from the tennis court last year and now the love story of the de Minaur and Boulter is set to attract more attention as the two players rising up their respective rankings.

The couple have been dating since early 2021, with their romance bubbling under the surface for showbiz reporters who follow the major tennis events.

Yet with de Minaur heading into the Australian Open as the big hope for the home fans and Boulter showing some great form as she broke into the top 50 of the WTA Rankings for the first time last year, this tennis power couple could be set for more celebrity spotlight this year.

De Minaur was recently asked if he is close to offering Boulter a marriage proposal and whether it could happen at the Australian Open this year, with his response suggesting he may not be far away from popping the big question.

After being asked about a possible marriage proposal earlier this month, de Minaur seemed reluctant to be drawn on the topic.

“Jeez. Putting me on the spot here,” de Minaur replied.

“Yeah, it’s not on the cards just yet. Not ruling it out. For the time being, I’m going to try to focus on playing tennis and then we’ll think about the off-court activities.”

When asked whether he would propose to Boulter if he won the Australian Open, de Minaur replied: “It wouldn’t be a bad way to celebrate, let’s just say that.”

Those questions from a reporter at a press conference drew criticism for their personal nature, but de Minaur and Boulter have been happy to talk about their romance in public.

“We’re on the same wavelength when it comes to our priorities, tennis is where we want to be and the rest will follow,” said Boulter last year.

“I couldn’t ask for any better, he’s the best support I’ve got.”

De Minaur has also spoken about how Boulter is helping him to take his game to the next level, as they are in a unique position to understand the emotions they live through on a tennis court.

“I’ve always thought she’s such a high-quality player, and it’s been amazing and great to see how she’s developed,” said de Minaur.

“She’s got that self-belief and what she’s been able to accomplish.

“The way she’s been handling the spotlight, the pressures, it’s been pretty astounding to me. You know, now it’s probably my turn to start learning from her.

“She’s been doing amazing. She’s shown again this week that she deserves to be where she’s at, and I think, genuinely think, that it’s only the beginning.

“I guess it’s the beauty of us being both in the same sport. We kind of understand each other. We know what to expect, how we can help each other in certain situations.

“Tennis is a very stressful lifestyle, as it is. It’s always great to have a partner that you can kind of count on, help you out here and there.

“It works both ways. I’m there to help her when she needs it. We kind of know what to say in certain situations ’cause we’re in the same world, which is always good.”

Alex and Katie will have plenty of flashlights on them when the Australian Open begins and if they both enjoy deep runs in Melbourne, the media attention around their love story will gather momentum.
