British No 1 Katie Boulter has called out her boyfriend Alex De Minaur over his ridiculous behaviour in Acapulco.

De Minaur isn’t the first man to have his activities in Acapulco questioned but he might be the maiden double ATP 500 tournament winner to be scolded.

Boulter was jokingly calling out De Minaur for successfully defending his Mexico Open title and continuing a stellar start to the 2024 season.

The Aussie De Minaur defeated Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 to win the title and ensure the Mexico Open was defended for the first time in 12 seasons.

De Minaur also snapped a four-match losing streak in championship matches.

His heroics drew a jocular reaction from Boulter who has enjoyed her own success this week.

“Back-to-back is ridiculous behaviour,” Boulter wrote on her Instagram story.

After the win, De Minaur revealed that he wouldn’t be hanging around in Acapulco to celebrate as he wanted to jet off to San Diego to support his girlfriend.

“No, I cannot because I’ve got a 6 am flight to go to Tijuana and go and watch Katie play in the final so I’m looking forward to that,” De Minaur said in the on-court interview when asked if he would be going hard in his celebration.

De Minaur said that he was feeling a little low heading into Acapulco despite some great achievements in recent months.

He says that he feels at home in the Mexican city which has proven a significant place during his career.

“It’s been an amazing week. Probably a week I didn’t really expect if I’m honest. I came into Mexico not feeling my best and just kept on telling myself to keep giving myself chances. I think today I played my best match of the tournament, so I’m extremely happy with that,” Alex De Minaur said via ATP Tour.

“Acapulco has been a very good place to me for my tennis career. The first time I won a 500, and the first time I’ve defended a title in my career. I feel at home here and it’s a great place to be,” De Minaur added.

Meanwhile, Boulter defeated Emma Navarro, the No 3 seed, 6-3, 6-1, to go into her first hard-court final. With the win over No 2 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia in the opening round, Boulter has already upset two of the top three seeds this week and faces No 6 seed Marta Kostyuk in the final.

Boulter, who began the week ranked No 49, will try to capture her maiden WTA 500 championship on Sunday with De Minaur in support.
