‘Let the children dream’ – I’ve never set limits for Holger says Aneke Rune

Aneke Rune says that she has tried not to put any limitations on the dreams of her children.

Her son Holger Rune has laid out his ambition to be the best in the world and to be considered alongside the greatest players.

His mother feels that encouraging him to dream has done wonders for Holger.

“I generally never talk about limitations or what ifs,” Aneke Rune told SpilXperten.

“I take each day as it comes, and if you fill your days with the right things and work in the direction you want, why shouldn’t you succeed even with your wildest dreams? I fundamentally believe that you can do anything. You can create your own life and achieve what you want.

“If you make constraints at a young age or come up with too many what ifs….then you switch off some of that innocent light, that untouched passion, which I think is an important drive later on. Let the kids dream and support them in whatever the heck they want to do. If they are passionate about it, they will succeed.”

Rune appears to be made for the big moments, already besting 11 top ten players.

Frederik Lochte Nielsen believes that there will be many more chances for Holger to prove he has Grand Slam quality.

“Holger is made for those matches in the biggest stadiums against the very best players,” Nielsen said.

“That’s where he feels he belongs. That’s where he feels most comfortable.”

“If you’re going to talk about players who have a chance to achieve the same as the greatest legends, I completely agree that Alcaraz and Rune are the two who can do it. I think they have the best platform to build on right now.”

The former doubles star acknowledged that Alcaraz is just a little further along in his game, but they could have a long rivalry at the top of the sport.

Nielsen believes that in time Rune will recover the physical edge that Alcaraz currently holds over him.

“They are two players who really play tennis and get the best out of themselves.

“The reason why Alcaraz is maybe a little bit further ahead than Rune right now is because Alcaraz is maybe a little bit better physically. He has a natural strength, but when Holger builds that up, he will be horrible to face for all players because he has almost no weaknesses.”
