Lorenzo Musetti reveals his biggest step forward and Jannik Sinner’s ‘best’ quality
Lorenzo Musetti has revealed what Jannik Sinner’s “best” quality is and what allowed him to make a big step forward last year.
Despite having an injury-blighted season, 2025 was Musetti’s best year on tour by far. The Italian achieved a year-end ranking of eight, nine places better than his previous best.
The 24-year-old chalked up a winning percentage of 67%, reached his first French Open semi-final, and his first Masters final in Monte Carlo.
Musetti, who reached a career high of five in the rankings at the start of 2026, has struggled with leg and arm injuries this season, but the world no 11 believes good things are just around the corner.
The 2024 Olympics Bronze medallist is still using compatriot Sinner as a source of motivation to reach the top of the game, while explaining how his consistency is such an enviable quality.

Musetti, who was two sets up on Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open quarter-finals before retiring with injury, was speaking ahead of his second round tie at the Italian Open.
The Carrara-born player admitted that maintaining a good level of consistency across the season was his “biggest step forward” in 2025 – but Sinner is the master of it.
He said on The Big T Podcast, “I wish I could be… let’s say flat in terms of ups and downs. Especially in the emotions. Because I’ve always been someone who really gets heated in the moment and has a lot of ups and downs.
“I really worked hard to kind of maintain an average level of a top player. And that was probably the biggest step forward that I made last year.
“Because I had so many great results in the past, but never with that consistency. And that was probably what Jannik [Sinner] does best. Of course his level is always on top.
“And even if he drops, he never drops badly. And that was probably my problem. And as you mentioned, we had some Italian guys that were known for that.”
Indeed, Fabio Fognini was known for his combustible nature on the ATP Tour, but Sinner appears to be cut from a different cloth.
Whether Musetti can maintain his composure and crash the Grand Slam party in 2026 remains to be seen.
