Mirra Andreeva Grand Slam prediction made as Indian Wells winner is compared to Maria Sharapova
Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci has given his verdict on how many Grand Slam titles Mirra Andreeva is capable of winning after the Russian star secured the 2025 Indian Wells title.
Andreeva earned an impressive 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over world No 1 and three-time major winner Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Indian Wells Open.
The 17-year-old also defeated Iga Swiatek, Elina Svitolina, Elena Rybakina, Clara Tauson and Varvara Gracheva during a sensational run in the Californian desert.
The Russian’s triumph — which extended her winning streak to 12 matches — saw her claim a second consecutive WTA 1000 title after her maiden victory at this category of event at last month’s Dubai Championships.
Andreeva has climbed to a new career-high WTA ranking of world No 6 on the back of her third singles title.
The prodigious talent, who will turn 18 on April 29, has been widely tipped for Grand Slam glory after her rapid rise to the top of the sport.
Her best Grand Slam result to date is her run to the semi-finals of the 2024 French Open. She reached the last 16 at this year’s Australian Open, losing to eventual runner-up Sabalenka.

The 9 youngest women to win multiple WTA 1000 titles: Mirra Andreeva 3rd
Following Andreeva’s Indian Wells title win, Macci compared the 17-year-old to her legendary Russian compatriot Maria Sharapova and made a big Grand Slam prediction.
“Mentally she (Andreeva) is in a bubble like Sharapova was. Mentally cut and uses same Russian cloth of right here right now,” the American wrote on X.
“Andreeva barring injury will be a double digit Slam champion and has the potential to be the Cream of the Crop of any Russian who got to the Top.”
Macci added: “Mirra has UNIQUE RARE AIR upside and more than any player I have seen on the WTA TOUR in a long time.
“She is the most complete player inside/out with no liabilities just major league assets. Russian Rabbit is locked loaded and ready to launch to multiple Grand Slams.”
Macci has worked with five players who achieved the world No 1 ranking in their careers: Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Jennifer Capriati and Andy Roddick. He also coached WTA Major champions Mary Pierce, Anastasia Myskina and Sofia Kenin.
