Two-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka is set to feature at the Western & Southern Open after all as she has been awarded a wildcard for the tournament.
There were doubts over Osaka’s participation in the WTA Premier 5 event as well as the US Open as her name was missing from the entry list that was released earlier this week.
However, her agent insisted that she would compete at the Flushing Meadows double header.
And organisers have now confirmed that the world No 10 will be in the field as she has been awarded a wildcard, which takes the number of top 10 players competing in the Western & Southern Open to six.
World No 3 Karolana Pliskova is the top-ranked player as the WTA Tour’s top two players Ashleigh Barty and Simona Halep decided not to enter.
Reigning US Open champion Sofia Kenin (No 4), 2018 Cincinnati winner Kiki Bertens (No 7), Belinda Bencic (No 8) and 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams (No 9) are the other top 10 players that will compete.
