‘Never lost the talent’ – Williams sisters’ former coach predicts Emma Raducanu’s future ranking

Esteemed coach Rick Macci, who coached five different world No 1 singles players, has given his prediction as to how high Emma Raducanu can climb in the WTA rankings.
The Brit has looked rejuvenated at the WTA 1000 event in Miami after a difficult few months.
Raducanu gained her first top 10 victory on a hard-court against Emma Navarro in the second-round, before later backing up that win with a dominating 6-1, 6-3 clash with 17th seed Amanda Anisimova.
“Emma never lost the talent,” stated Macci on X.
“You never lose what got you there on the outside.
Over coaching leads to over thinking and creates restrictive adaptations and can hurt players more than help and they think too much and put them in a mental vacuum.
“If Emma plays her authentic way top ten is back in play.”

Macci has previously coached the likes of Serena and Venus Williams, Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova, and Jennifer Capriati.
The American’s success was rewarded in 2017 by becoming the youngest person to be inducted into the United States Professional Tennis Association’s Hall of Fame.
Currently, Raducanu sits as the world No 48 in the WTA live singles rankings and would be on the verge of re-entering the world’s top 20 should she manage to win the Miami event.
The Brit’s highest position was as the world No 10 in July of 2022, 10 months after claiming the 2021 US Open title.
After her victory against the 17th seed Anisimova, Raducanu remarked upon her newly-found form: “I feel comfortable. I feel like in my environment, in my surroundings with the people I’m with, I feel pretty relaxed, and I can be myself and expressive and true to myself.”
“That’s important for me.
“Yeah, I’m really happy with how things are on and off the court right now and just also happy that I was able to kind of transfer on to the match court.”
The former US Open champion had a difficult 2024 season, forced to undergo foot surgery as well as experiencing back discomfort.

“I think physically I’m pretty confident right now,” commented Raducanu in Miami.
“In the conditions today it was quite hot and humid, and I knew that I could make it physical. I knew that I backed myself in that regard, and it didn’t necessarily, I guess, today bother me.
“It was difficult, I guess, because of the schedule. It was not much time, but for Amanda even more so because they finished a bit later. But I’m very grateful to be healthy because you don’t realize until you’re sidelined how important and how much it means.”
She is next scheduled to face fourth seed Jessica Pegula in the last eight of Miami, with the pair having previously clashed on two occasions. Raducanu gained the victory in their last meeting, albeit on grass, with a three-set win in 2024.
