Nick Kyrgios’ Australian court date on common assault charge postponed

Nick Kyrgios’ court hearing on a common assault charge will no longer take place in Canberra next week as it has been pushed back by three weeks.
The Wimbledon runner-up was due to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on August 2 on a common assault charge in relation to an incident in December 2021.
Australian media reported that it related to his former partner Chiara Passari and the offence carries a maximum jail term of two years.
However, the case will now only be heard on August 23 and “Kyrgios is not required to attend that court session if he is legally represented”, The Age said.
“Canberra solicitor Michael Kukulies-Smith is acting on Kyrgios’ behalf. Kukulies-Smith on Friday would also not confirm details of the charge, saying it would be inappropriate while the matter was before the courts.”
Kyrgios is currently in the United States for the North American hard-court swing and he is due to play in the Atlanta Open men’s doubles semi-final alongside fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis on Saturday.
The 27-year-old will then feature in the Citi Open in Washington DC next week before heading to Cincinnati, Ohio, for the Western & Southern starting on August 14.
