‘That was a non-negotiable for me,’ says Emma Raducanu as she vows not to be distracted by off-court events

Emma Raducanu has made it “clear” to everyone on her team that training remains her priority and off-court commitments should not interfere with her tennis.
Following her incredible fairytale run at the US Open that saw her become the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam, Raducanu has enjoyed a whirlwind couple of months as she became one of the hottest properties in the world of sport.
She attended the Met Gala and the premiere of the new Bond film shortly after her win at Flushing Meadows while she has also starred in her first Christmas ad after joining Sports Direct’s 2021 cast.

The 18-year-old is determined not to let her tennis suffer because of her off-court responsibilities.
“I made it very, very clear to every single person in my team that I was not going to cancel one training session or practice session for any off-court commitments,” she said.
“That was a non-negotiable for me. I wanted to make sure that that is my priority and it is. So everyone is clear about that.
“But it’s just managing my time with the commitments around that. Even if it’s not off-court events or whatever, I’m still doing my WTA rookie hours for example.”
