Novak Djokovic and wife Jelena donate €1m to Serbia’s coronavirus fight

World No 1 Novak Djokovic is the latest tennis star to make a massive donation to the fight against the coronavirus.
The couple pledged €1 million (about £897,000) that will go towards medical supplies in their native Serbia to help in the fight against Covid-19.
More than 25,000 people worldwide have already lost their lives with more than 550,000 cases while in Serbia 457 infections have been reported with eight deaths.
The Djokovic family, though, is contributing a €1 million to the fight.
“I wish to express my gratitude to all the medical staff across the world and in my native Serbia for helping everyone infected by the coronavirus,” the 17-time Grand Slam winner told Serbian media.
“Unfortunately, more and more people are getting infected every day. My wife Jelena and I are putting together a plan how to best donate our resources to people in need.
“Our donation is one million euros for the purchase of ventilators and other medical equipment.”
Djokovic’s fellow tennis players Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal also announced major donations to the fight against Covid-19 in their home countries earlier this week.
