Novak Djokovic still tops comprehensive stats-based GOAT list
Novak Djokovic is still the clear leader of the Ultimate Tennis Statistics GOAT standings.
Any sort of GOAT list will generate a little bit of conjecture at best and, at worst, could see things devolve into bickering.
UTS set out to remove a little of the emotion from the GOAT Race as they use comprehensive stats analysis.
Djokovic still holds a massive lead over Roger Federer and has even extended his lead over the retired Swiss star.
The system allows for players to lose points which means that Djokovic is not guaranteed to finish his career on top.
However, he has so far outstripped his rivals so thoroughly that it seems extremely unlikely that he will ever slip from the top, even if he suffers a catastrophic loss of form.
The Serbian may feel that he has plenty to achieve, but the mass of what he has already done is unlikely to be eroded.
He still sports a win ratio of more than 80 per cent on clay, hard and grass courts and his dominance of the ATP Rankings
Djokovic will win more Grand Slam titles and add further milestones to his glittering career, according to one former coach.
Djokovic may have lost an epic five-set final at Wimbledon to young star Carlos Alcaraz. However, Boris Becker believes he will still add more honours.
Becker believes that the Djokovic vs Alcaraz rivalry will feed tennis for a while to come yet.
“I don’t think it’s the end of the Djokovic era, and I hope not, because that was an excellent example of how a tennis match should be,” Becker told Eurosport’s ‘Das Gelbe vom Ball’ podcast.
“We won millions of new fans thanks to that, and I hope they can repeat that in New York or Melbourne. I don’t think Djokovic will stop performing.”
Becker feels that Djokovic doesn’t lack for motivation and will be determined to strengthen his GOAT case in any way possible.
The Olympics in Paris next year will be a beacon to Djokovic who would love to complete his set of top titles at the Games.
“The question is about motivation: what keeps Djokovic going? Yes, certainly on the 24th [Grand Slam], then he would be the best along with Margaret Court as far as ‘majors’ are concerned. He already is in the men’s category, but of course he wants to be in the general,” said Becker.
