Novak Djokovic is currently looking unlikely as a US Open entrant as it will require either a relaxing of entry standards or a turnaround on the vaccine from the Serbian.

Djokovic has already made it clear that he won’t be deviating from his course on the vaccine, but there is a groundswell of public pressure to allow the tennis star in to play.

While Djokovic could enter if he got special permission to enter the country, has said that he will not be pushing to be allowed in after his experiences in Australia.

However, Djokovic still appears confident that he will get to New York.

The Serbian has been busy after winning his 21st Grand Slam at Wimbledon, heading back to the Balkans for prior engagements and not a few celebrations.

Having opened a tennis centre in Bosnia just days after lifting the famous trophy on centre court, Djokovic is now back in Belgrade and has been warmly welcomed.

During a dinner in Ritual Restoran in Belgrade, Djokovic was joined by Serbian musician Sasa Kovacevic.

The pair put on an impromptu perfomance of Sting’s ‘Englishman in New York’ with some cheeky changes to the lyrics.

Djokovic joined in singing a ‘Serbian in New York’, suggesting that he might just turn up at Flushing Meadow yet.

Novak Djokovic drops US Open hint as he promises Nick Kyrgios ‘dinner is on me in NYC’

He has a complicated history with the US Open having won the tournament three times but also losing six finals in New York and in 2020 he was disqualified from the tournament during the fourth round after accidentally hitting a line official with a ball.

The most recent of those six final losses came last season when he was beaten by Daniil Medvedev in straight sets as the Russian won his maiden Grand Slam.

Medvedev missed out on Wimbledon due to a ban on Russian and Belarussian players.

As Wimbledon was stripped of all rankings points, Medvedev remains the World No 1 and looks set to take full part in the North American hard court swing including the Masters events in Ohio and Toronto.

Djokovic has already slipped out of the top five for the first time since 2007, and stands to drop further if he can’t get into the United States.
