Novak Djokovic on Nick Kyrgios’ support over vaccination stance: ‘That was unexpected’

Novak Djokovic has welcomed Nick Kyrgios’ “unexpected” backing over his stance on freedom of choice when it comes to vaccinations.
World No 1 Djokovic has made it clear that he is not in favour of vaccine mandates with the 20-time Grand Slam winner insisting that he will not reveal his Covid-19 vaccine status.
It has raised question marks over his participation at next year’s Australian Open as the Victoria Premier Dan Andrews is adamant that only double-vaxxed players will granted visas to play at the tournament.
Earlier this week Djokovic received support from an unexpected source in Kyrgios as the Australian said it was “morally wrong” to force unvaccinated players to have the Covid jab, although he did make a U-turn on the issue later.
Nick Kyrgios says Australian Open should be cancelled as he also backs Novak Djokovic’s vaccination stance
The Serbian, though, was asked about Kyrgios’ views and replied: “That was unexpected knowing what was coming from him towards me in the last couple of years.
“But this time I must agree with him that the freedom of choice is essential for everyone, whether it’s me or somebody else.
“Doesn’t really matter whether it’s vaccination or anything else in life. You should have the freedom to choose, to decide what you want to do. In this particular case, what you want to put in your body.”
